Declutter Your Books

As we embark on the end of this journey to streamline our lives this month, it’s time to declutter that book collection.

Now, let me first tell you, I am a HUGE fan of books. I read all the time. I read on a Kindle or iPad. But I mostly read physical books.

Getting rid of books, whether we’ve read them or not, is a tough task for most of us. I totally understand! Books are personal. They can represent our hopes and dreams. Our education. Our accomplishments. Our goals.

But…they’re just books…and they take up space. If you’re like most people, they take up a LOT of space!

We read books for the content on the pages, not to add to our collection. So once we’ve absorbed that content, it’s okay to pass the physical book on to someone else.

That’s why I want to challenge you to look around your home today and find at least ONE book you don’t need.

HOW TO DECLUTTER BOOKS>>>

I know one book doesn’t take up that much space. But it’s a good exercise to see how you feel removing a book from your home. Plus, if you’re like the majority of Americans, you probably have dozens of books that you haven’t touched in years. So, go take a look at your books and ask yourself the following questions:

  • How long have I had this book?
  • Have I already read it?
  • If yes, will I read it again? When?
  • If not, will I ever read it? Really? When?
  • What’s the main point of the book?

It’s important to ask yourself these questions, because you’ll get down to the heart of the matter. There are probably dozens of books you’re holding onto that you never intend to read again. And if you think about it, you really wouldn’t miss them if they were gone. The goal is to own your valuable space again, one book at a time.

Give it a try. Declutter at least one book. See if you miss it. If not, try again!

If you’re extra motivated and want to go the next step, accomplish one of these options:

1. Sell or trade it in on Amazon.

2. Trade it on Paperback Swap.

3. Take it to a used bookstore to sell or trade.

4. Trade with a friend or just give it to her/him.
